      <image:caption>  Whether it was skateboarding and tennis as a kid, basketball and rowing through high school or powerlifting and weightlifting later on, I’ve always enjoyed some kind of sport. I’ve been powerlifting since 2009 and weightlifting since 2013. Unfortunately for me, I’m crushingly mediocre at sport; however, years of trying to get better has forced me to analyse everything I do as well as what those around me are doing. This has made me into an excellent coach and a neurotic mess, but mostly an excellent coach. I’ve been in some sort of coaching role since 2008. I coached rowing for four years from 2008 to2012 and have been coaching powerlifters since 2012. I started coaching weightlifting shortly after learning it myself with the help of more experienced coaches, not to mention all the study I have done on weightlifting movements in particular. I think that being in the game for a long time is more important than anything. Anyone can go hard for a session but going hard every session leads to injury and burnout. It takes a disciplined attitude to be able to go in and put the brakes on when you need to then go hard when it’s appropriate. I want people to understand that if you need to smash a pre-workout before every session, you probably need to rethink what you’re doing. You should be doing something that you enjoy and find challenging – but that’s sustainable. Now for the obligatory “personal” things part. Outside of the gym I like to play video games, read Zizek, mess about with computers and listen to all sorts of music. I used to play drums in a band. Good times. My favourite meal is not having to eat a meal because I eat the same thing every day for almost every meal – something I call a “sadness bowl”: frozen vegetables, boiled brown rice and chicken. Sometimes it has some kind of sauce on it. I also drink a lot of milk, mainly because it’s easy and makes me happy when it has chocolate in it.       <image:caption>Nick Karp Nick has always led an active life. Growing up he shared a passion for all sports and competitively participated in soccer, indoor soccer, tennis and table tennis.  Health and fitness became more of a passion as he grew older and spent several years training at his local "globo" gym, before a friend invited him to come down and do a session at Schwartz's CrossFit Melbourne.  One session a week quickly turned into two, and two into four until his entire training program became CrossFit based. Whilst continuing his job as a Real Estate Agent the passion for CrossFit grew stronger.  It soon became apparent that this is where his true passion lay, and what he wanted to do be doing for a living.  As exciting as being a Real Estate Agent was, the possibility of becoming a permanent part of the CrossFit community and fully adopting its core values and beliefs meant that a change of career path was imminent. After training at Schwartz’s CrossFit for approximately 18 months the opportunity to embark on a new career with the Schwartz team was impossible to say to no to, and thus in early 2008 Nick began working at Schwartz’s CrossFit Melbourne. CrossFit challenges you in ways conventional training simply does not. It is a form of training that provides a broad range of exercises and movements not found in "regular" training.  CrossFit elicits a response in all people, not only the athletic or high performance gym goer. Nick's greatest pleasure comes from seeing people come to him in a state of poor physical, mental and spiritual health, and seeing how CrossFit can help to transform them into a happier, healthier, and stronger, more confident person.   Qualifications: Cert 3 &amp; 4 - Fitness Level 1 Accredited CrossFit Trainer CrossFit Gymnastics Certification CrossFit Running Certification</image:caption>
